The Big Help Project couldn't help the many people it does without the help of its many volunteers. If you would like to give up some of your time to help us and your community, we would be delighted to welcome you onto our team.
Volunteering is a great way to use and discover new skills, meet new people, and gain satisfaction from knowing that you are part of wider team making a real difference to people across the community. If you are looking for work, volunteering is valued by many employers as showing commitment and teamwork skills. Volunteering is also very beneficial to personal growth and development.
The most important thing for any potential volunteer is that they share our ethos. We accept volunteers of all faiths or none-what matters is that you share our commitment to helping those in need, without judgement or reservation.
You must be over 18 to volunteer for the Big Help Project. All volunteers are required to complete an induction. Groups who wish to volunteer, for example Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, MUST contact us at least 2 months in advance. We cannot accommodate large groups of volunteers at short notice.
At the Big Help Project, we believe that everyone has something to offer, and we strive to match our potential volunteer with the role that best suits their strengths, skills, experience and motivations. Maybe you're good with people and could offer advice and a listening ear to the clients. Or you may prefer to be ‘behind the scenes and could sort through donations or help with administrative tasks. Volunteers with retail experience often excel at volunteering in our shops. Whatever your skills, we will do our best to find an opportunity that you will enjoy.
Absolutely-we have volunteers who support on an ad-hoc basis, for example supporting our food collections at local supermarkets. This is highly valuable to us, so if you can help in this way please let us know on your application form.
Whatever your skills and availability, we would love to hear from you. For more information about how you can volunteer please email us or download the volunteer application form.
