New Website Welcome to the new website for the Big Help Project. This brand-new website, will give visitors easier and quicker access to all the information they need, whether that be finding a distribution centre, reading our latest news stories or looking at ways to get involved. The site has been designed to be as easy as possible to navigate, and will also the facility to enquire about our services, express an interest in volunteering or even arrange a furniture collection through our new referral forms. The new website comes at a key time for the project, coinciding with the sixth anniversary of the founding of Knowsley Foodbank in 2011. The organisation as it stands today is very different from the Foodbank that I opened at St Marks Church in 2011 with a handful of staff and volunteers-we now employ over 30 people, and have a dedicated team of over 100 volunteers. From a single purpose of feeding the hungry, we now deliver numerous projects helping people with a range of issues including debt, looking for work, and welcoming a new baby into the family. Through all the changes and progress, our core aim has remained the same: providing assistance to people of all backgrounds and all faiths or none who are found to be in genuine need. Any project of this scale and reach commands a huge amount of resources, and it is easy for achievements and progress to become lost in the wider picture. However, at this sixth anniversary, we must not lose sight of the hugely positive impact we have had upon so many lives. Through the work of the Next Steps and Working Futures team, over 100 people who were looking for work have now secured employment. Since 2012, over 300 people have benefitted from debt management support from JDA, while this month saw us give away the 200th Baby Basics Moses Basket. The Big Help Trading has also gone from strength-to-strength, with the Homes with Style store offering more and more people an ethical credit option, alongside the new and existing Community Shops in Huyton and Wavertree. All of these achievements and successes stand as a testament to the innovation, dedication and commitment of all of our staff, volunteers, donors and friends. Sadly, the need for our services will be with us for a long time to come, but despite the challenges that we will continue to face, we should take this anniversary as an opportunity to take step back, reflect and above all to give thanks for the privilege of being a force for good in so many people's lives. This difference we have made on an individual scale was brought home to us this month, through our first focus group of current and former clients, who had the courage to share honestly their thoughts and feelings on their experiences of the Big Help Project. We heard first hand from clients that, without our intervention, would have believed that their life had no future or purpose. More than one stated that we had effectively saved their lives. To be able to support these people at the darkest point in their lives is both a honour, and a responsibility. We are thankful that we have been able to support all the clients we have worked with over the past six years, and we thank God for bringing these people to us, giving them the strength to work with us, and so bringing them to a place of hope and empowerment. The Big Help Project will continue to work to alleviate poverty in Knowsley and the surrounding areas for as long as there is a need, and we hope that our new website will bring more people to us, whether it is to seek help or to offer support. We could not have achieved what we have achieved over the past six years without the help and support of so many people, and we hope that by visiting our website you will be inspired to get involved and help us.
